Compare
Places and ThunderTix
ThunderTix is theater-native with published per-ticket pricing and a dense compare hub. Places competes on door-night and self-serve, not on $1 versus $1.
ThunderTix has been in theater ticketing since 2005. They publish reserved and GA pricing, a dense compare hub, nightly payout claims, and a live llms.txt plus /ai MCP connector (as of 19–21 Aug 2026). Places will not pretend that stack is empty.
What this page is not
This is not a cheaper-than-ThunderTix page. This is not a $1 versus $1 page. ThunderTix already publishes a $1 GA line on their pricing page (as of 21 Aug 2026). Matching the number is not a category win.
Published ThunderTix pricing (their page)
From ThunderTix pricing as of 21 Aug 2026:
- GA: $1.00 + $20/mo (first 20 in that tier)
- Reserved: $1.25 + $25/mo
- White Glove: $1.95 + $195/mo
- K-12: $0.65 + 3.5% including processing on their Stripe path
- Seat-map: $0.55/seat, $250 minimum; they say nonprofit discounts are available on request
Monthly minimums remain in dark months on those tiers. Places is a different shape: free tools until a ticket sells, then $1 per reserved-seat ticket, with GA free for small events for a limited time. That is not a head-to-head dollar duel.
Where Places aims instead
Door night. No lock that turns the house into a laptop and a spreadsheet. Self-serve setup a volunteer house can keep. Production work before the doors open.
ThunderTix’s own vs-Ludus page (as of 19 Aug 2026) concedes junior-high, church one-show, and small rural community theatre to Ludus. Places is aiming at the volunteer house that still has to open the door when the ticket page fails. See when the ticket page dies and volunteer box office.
